“What if All the Doors Were Open?” 2016

A collaboration with Chris Filby, where we used his ‘Open Doors’ map to drawn people across into conversation around the topic of migration. We met with a range of people from across Leeds at events where local people, migrants, refugees and asylum seekers were present. We found they wanted to interact with the map as a way of telling their stories of travel and migration: identifying their home countries and drawing lines to show their journeys. Several told very personal stories, others expressed their opinions about migration and migration policy, both in the UK and other states. The project spanned the period leading up to, and directly after, the Brexit vote.

Map of the world showing borders between countries where there is an open doorway in each border.
